Wildcats Conquer Place Value!

Students sit in floor and work math problems

Watauga Elementary School third graders are learning about place value. Through hands on dice activities, students are able to build, read, and analyze six digit numbers. Each team uses a set of foam dice to create numbers to the hundred thousands place! Then, the team members take turns reading the number in word form and breaking down the value of each digit into expanded form. This fun, engaging activity allows the students to explore and understand number placement and how that translates into individual digit values and subsequently builds upon their number sense skills. We are not stopping there. Look out millions, here we come!
