In Grades K-3, the focus in Physical Education is on introducing a variety of games and activities that promote a life-long interest in a healthy lifestyle.  This focus is continued in grades 4-5 but a special emphasis is placed on physical fitness as students are introduced to the Presidential Physical Fitness Challenge and the State Mandated Wellness Standards.  Units in basketball, volleyball, softball and track are also introduced in order for students to stay physically active in a fun way.

Annually we teach a comprehensive nutrition course to kindergarten and 5th grade. The kindergarten program consists of a national program called Organ Wise Guys which introduces kids to the importance of good nutrition through an animated teaching model. The 5th grade nutrition program focuses on learning to eat properly from the Nutrition Pyramid with special focus on  learning about fats, carbs, proteins, vitamins and calories. The programs goal is to influence the personal choices that students make every day with their eating habits.

Also a strength and conditioning program is offered in 4th and 5th grade P.E. in order to improve physical strength and increase metabolism.. All of these efforts combined should help produce greater scores on the AAHPERD fitness tests and the State Wellness Standards.
