Consistent with Washington County's philosophy of education, the counseling program at Watauga Elementary School concerns itself with the developmental process of maximizing the child's potential. Watauga's guidance program is both developmental and preventive in nature. The four types of guidance and counseling services offered are:

4. Personal and social counseling.

Mrs. Tonya O'Dell, the counselor, conducts classroom guidance classes in all classrooms during the school year.

The Character Education Program is not an add-on curriculum, but is part of the Guidance Program.  This program will become a method for accomplishing the existing goals of education - which is to help children develop all the skills that they need to become successful adults.  The Character Education program will also compliment the Virginia Standards of Learning.

Each month we will focus on one of the pillars of education.

September-October Respect
November-December Responsibility
January Fairness
February Citizenship
March-April Trustworthiness
