WES Choir Sings for the Community

Students stand on steps of BCM and sing

The 4th and 5th grade Watauga Elementary School choir under the direction of Amanda Farnum helped spread some holiday cheer throughout the community in the month of December. The choir had the opportunity to travel to various locations throughout the towns of Abingdon and Bristol sharing some well-known Christmas Carols. First the students performed at the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting at the Farmers Market Pavilion in Abingdon. The choir performed the songs Mister Santa, The Christmas Song, Feliz Navidad, and Here Comes the Snow. The tree lighting concluded with both Watauga Elementary and Greendale Elementary choirs along with the audience singing O Christmas Tree as the town tree was lit up so beautifully. The fourth grade choir then had the opportunity to travel to Abingdon Health and Rehab and Commonwealth Assisted Living where they caroled for the residents. The fifth grade group traveled to Spring Garden Preschool located at State Street United Methodist Church to carol for a group of children ranging from 6 months to four years old. Next they headed to the Birthplace of Country Music Museum where they performed and toured the facility. The highlight there was that the student were given the opportunity to sing over a live radio broadcast while inside the museum! Students enjoyed discovering the history of country music through interactive touch screens, audio recordings, dancing, and browsing artifacts on display. The choir had a blast sharing their love of music with the community during the holiday season and they look forward to learning new music and lining up additional performance to showcase their talent in the spring!
